Your self-confidence will grow, as will your knowledge of the organization’s culture, and you will become more visible to the powers that be. You’ll learn how to give and receive feedback constructively. Ultimately, you will grow exponentially in many directions. Why should you mentor? If all the above reasons for why a young employee – or a new one, for that matter – should seek out and have a mentor aren’t enough to answer this question as to why you should be one, then let’s spell them out. You will surpass the highest level of your own personal growth (Abraham Maslow defined that as self-actualization) and reach a new level which he called transcendence: taking what you’ve developed (and are continuing to develop) and offer it to others. At the same time, you are affording yourself the opportunity to be more than successful and more than happy. You are giving yourself the chance to be meaningful. You will give back to the organization, simultaneously growing it and (at least) one of its “up and comers.” You will, while you’re helping your mentee develop the skills mentioned above, continue to develop those very same skills in yourself. One fundamental and immutable truth I have learned in more than 13 years of teaching two graduate-level leadership courses at Fairleigh Dickinson University, is that teaching and learning are the very same activity. One cannot possibly teach without learning, and as one learns, one also teaches, whether by design or coincidence.

Strategies To Help You Be Successful In A Job Search
Everyone knows that the current economy is not conducive to finding a job. If you are one of the many that are currently seeking employment, you need to know what it takes to secure the best job for you. Give the information careful consideration so you can take advantage of all the useful tips provided.
When looking for a job, talk to people you already know. They might be able to introduce you to potential employers. People will often forget to do this, but it’s a necessary step for getting a good recommendation on a job.
Put forth your full effort at work, even if you are seeking different employment. Failing to give it your best reflects poorly on your character and work ethic. Potential employers will probably find out about your attitude when they contact your current employers. Always do your best on the job in order to achieve success in your career.
Use LinkedIn and its resources. There is a section of the website called “Questions & Answers” that will let you show off your skills within your industry. This area can also be used to ask questions of others regarding jobs and industries.
Being prepared is essential when you’re seeking a job. An up-to-date resume and qualifications list is needed. It should also contain all your accomplishments, such as education and certifications. Do not forget any information related to your previous employers.
Don’t get into conflicts with coworkers. Being able to get along with coworkers, including difficult ones, is an important skill that future employers will look for. By having a good reputation, you will be more likely to receive raises and promotions than other coworkers who stir up drama.
Plan to arrive at work early. You never know what could happen on your way to work, which is why you should give yourself enough time. Timeliness is a basic quality in any employee, and potential employers will be turned off if they find out that you are consistently late for work.
Include social media on your resume. Social media plays an important part in business marketing and networking, so demonstrate you have those skills.
Think about offering your cell number instead of a home number on your applications. This will give you the ability to take calls when you are not at home. This allows you to bring your phone with you anywhere you need to go.
If you know that you are going to be let go at your job, file for unemployment right away. Don’t wait for your last day on the job or until your severance ends. Sign up right away so that all the red-tape and paperwork will have time to process before you are penniless.
Your resume is an important tool in getting the job you desire. Get your resume organized so employers know your background. Past work experience, skills and educations should be listed on your resume. You should also include any volunteer experience, and make sure your contact information is current.
It’s important to give out a great “vibe” at the interview. Remember to project positivity and smile often. Your interviewer must see you in a positive light, so exude positivity.
Handling hard questions during an interview can be overwhelming. Preparing yourself for such questions could help you avoid embarrassment. Prior to the day, write down what you consider your weaknesses to be, as well as any issues that a potential employer may discover about you and your past work history. Never try to explain these things by exaggerating or lying, but be responsible and discuss them honestly.
Everyone needs to monitor their presence online as so much is available online these days. Do a search on your own name periodically so you know what is circulating. By doing this, you can see what potential employers will see when they search for your name, which is very likely. If you see unpleasing results, you can quickly change them before they do.
Find out all you can from employment agencies, but beware of anything that they may be promising you. Some of these places are only interested in making money. Talk to other workers who have deal with the company, and ask them to tell you all they can about the company. A legitimate agency is a great tool and can help you find success.
Never go into an interview expecting things to go smoothly on the way there. If possible, drive by the interview site at least one day in advance. Where are you supposed to park? What is the right door to enter to get to your interview? Where is the exact location of the office? Being late is a horrible thing, so make sure to get there about 10 minutes ahead of schedule.
As mentioned, this economy has contributed to a bad environment for jobs. It isn’t easy to survive in the economic environment of today. It is truly hard to find a great job. Reviewing the tips from this article can help you get a job, even during economic downturns.
